Electricity for idiots

Private customers or households in Slovenia awaited this year's first bill, or the January bill for energy used, with fear. The announcements of electricity price increases ranged from 40% or more. In Slovenia, the government once again intervened in the determination of electricity prices and tried to soften the announced price increases. On 31.12.2024, the Regulation on determining the price of electricity entered into force. This means that in 2024, we have regulated or subsidized 90% of electricity consumption, which is charged at the old price. 10% of our household consumption is paid by customers or consumers of electricity at the new price. That's how we got just a slightly higher bill. The catastrophic above-average actual inflationary rise in electricity prices can be seen at 10% of billed consumption, and of course we hope that the government Regulation on determining the price of electricity will be valid at least until the end of the heating season. In practice, o...

Slovenia's inglorious entry into 2024

Slovenia is preparing to enter 2024 with inflation, a conflagration after last year's fires and a financial disaster after this year's floods, as well as an increased number of unauthorized entries into Slovenia. This is what some of the negative factors of this past year look like, and they will remain active negative factors in the everyday life of Slovenian citizens even in 2024. The number of illegal migrants who, despite all the gracious migration welcome in Slovenia, still enter Slovenia illegally, increased from last year's 30.141 to an infamous 55.230. Of course, the data is collected only until the end of November. Most illegal migrants are from Afghanistan, Morocco and Pakistan. "Only" 53.526 migrants expressed their intention for international protection. However, the number of illegal migrants living in Slovenia fell from last year's 3.969 to 1.940. The largest number of illegal migrants who resided illegally in Slovenia this year were from Moldova...

Poor inflation brain

I am just reading about Slovenia's 4.9% annual inflation published by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia and followed by the following quoted description "The prices of services increased by 7.4% on average, and the prices of goods by 3.6%. Goods daily consumption was more expensive by 4.7%, semi-durable goods by 2.3% and durable goods by 0.6%". And, of course, the following record about the 18.8% reduction in electricity prices due to the exemption from the payment of OVE and SPTE is the least clear to me.  Since, of course, I am already "older and have holes in my memory, or rather my memory is already slow", I even tried to check the electricity bill, which is supposed to be so much lower now. Last November (2022), I paid 91.47 euros for 542 kW. This year's (2023) November bill amounts to 92.9 euros for 513 kW. That is to say, according to my outdated calculation skills, I can determine that I paid less for higher consumption in the month ...
