Security in the EU in the face of irregular migrants

We often wonder whether the European Union (EU) is still safe for its citizens to live in. Or simply there are unregistered residents wandering around the EU, even with the current "smell of war" near the EU borders, or potential spies, criminals or even soldiers under the guise of a refugee.

The Russia-Ukraine war, which has lasted for more than a year and a half, which also borders the EU, also raises questions in our minds as to whether stricter control over the population has already been established in the EU, or control of so-called illegal residents in the EU. Of course, we also have to take into account the fact that now all migrants from Ukraine are legal migrants who can apply for a residence permit in the EU. And of course we also hope that their identity is verified.

Currently, illegal migrants are only migrants from other countries that are not members of the EU. And there are not a few of them this year either. This is also confirmed by data from Frontex on the website consilium.europa.eu.
In the period from January to the end of August 2023, 160 139 migrants entered the EU irregularly. Of these, there were 36 968 irregular arrivals in August of this year alone. In other words, these migrants can also be called illegal migrants. And of the total number of 160 139 identified irregular crossings, as many as 18 478 migrants were of unknown origin. This means that for more than 1% of illegal migrants, the competent authorities cannot determine their citizenship.

Irregular migrants come to the EU area the most, when their citizenship is established or known, from Syria and Morocco.

Of course, such data also mean that the EU authorities will continue to be able to strive for an efficient, humanitarian and safe European migration policy, which is mainly intended for citizens from countries outside the EU borders. We EU citizens will continue to wonder if our daily lives are still safe for us and our families.
