Social Network and Personal Value: The Challenge of the Modern Individual
Modern Social Dynamics
In our time, well-developed social networks (friendships and acquaintances) play an extremely important role. It seems that in the eyes of society, an individual gains power with every important and socially reputable friend or acquaintance. This social network is increasingly becoming our primary value and priority in our everyday lives.
The Value of One's Own References
However, both in the past and in the present, we should first and foremost be proud of our own value and references. This means that we should first present ourselves: with our name, education, work achievements and social position.
This is our true, own socio-social value. The problem arises because this individual value can be lost if we rely too much on our social network. This is also the downside of excessive creation and use of such networks.
The Turnaround: Individuality First
If we use social networks together with our own social references and do not put them first, the dynamics change dramatically. Our individuality comes to the fore.
Those other individuals or groups from our social networks then become a secondary element of our lives. This eliminates the downside of social networks, which is that we get to know people only in order to exploit their references and successes.
The Influence of Social Demands
The downside and upside of social networks are often created through perception or even unspoken social demands of our environment. Some individuals preferred to listen to the successes of members of our network in conversation rather than our own references.
This may mean that they did not really get to know us as a whole person in this way.
It is also possible that such people simply want to expand their own network through our friends and acquaintances.
Conclusion: The Power of Authenticity
To avoid discussions about the misuse or excessive use of social networks, the simplest and most honest thing is to talk about yourself first and foremost and to share as little information about others as possible. This gives acquaintances and friends the opportunity to autonomously express or project their own image and individuality into society. Self-worth should always overshadow the value of the network.
