EU support to Ukraine and refugees

Since February 2022, there has been a state of war in Ukraine due to the invasion of Russian military forces. Since the European Union (EU) condemned the attack on Ukraine and expressed its full support for Ukraine, 4.3 million Ukrainians have migrated to the territory of the EU to date, and there is no indication that a peaceful diplomatic solution to the conflict between Ukraine and the Russian Federation will be found.

The 4,3 million Ukrainian refugees can also be compared with the slightly more than two million population of Slovenia to get a more vivid description of the wave of Ukrainian refugees. Due to the state of war in Ukraine, EU members have offered help in the form of temporary accommodation and international protection, including access to health services, social services and access to education and integration into the European labor market. All these rights of Ukrainians in the EU area also fall under the full support of Ukraine by the EU members.

Refugees from Ukraine cross national borders and stay there, mostly in Poland (958.935), the Czech Republic (366.010), Moldova (111.835), Slovakia (109.215), Romania (84.415), Hungary (53.375), Bulgaria (52.245), Estonia (50.450), Lithuanians (50.690) and Latvians (32.470). In total, there are already 1.869.540 Ukrainians in the border countries of Ukraine. During this time, there were 2.880.935 Ukrainians who applied for asylum or international protection in these countries.

It is also interesting to note that 1.307.750 Ukrainians, or at least former residents of Ukraine, migrated to the territory of the Russian Federation and Belarus. To date, 2.672.790 Ukrainians have settled in other countries of the European continent. The lion's share of these Ukrainian refugees was accepted by Germany (1.114.070), followed by Great Britain with only 210.800 and Spain with 185.875 Ukrainian refugees. Of these countries, only Italy (167.525) accepted more than one hundred thousand refugees from Ukraine. Already 2.350.970 Ukrainian refugees have applied for asylum or other international protection in these countries. Data are available at https://data2.unhcr.org/en/situations/Ukraine

In ordinary, picturesque language, I would say that due to the state of war in their own country, or at least the country where they lived before the war, Ukrainians retreated to safety, perhaps with only the most necessary necessities, in order to save their bare lives. According to these data, 10% of the 43,79 million Ukrainian nation is alone in the area of EU members. And of course the number of refugees is increasing day by day.
