War polygons

In the so-called happy month of December, when we traditionally look forward to a more or less successful next year, others helplessly observe the devastation of the state of war in their home environment day after day and spend their days in fear for their lives and possible property. Former weapons testing ranges or polygons have expanded to their homes and people have even been replaced by dolls that are used as targets. The former everyday life in peace and expected prosperity has turned into all the misery of everyday life, when problems and disputes are easily resolved with more or less effective weapons. Diplomacy, the rhetoric of peace and peaceful diplomatic resolution of all our controversial coexistence on planet Earth has simply dissolved into the abyss of rapid military resolution of disputes and expected victory over more effective weapons. And again, as has happened many times in the history of mankind, diplomats have been replaced by soldiers. Of course, old weapo...

Wars and human population

All the horrors of war with killed soldiers and also civilians are not necessarily reflected in the reduce of the human population. We would probably expect that a state of war in a country reduces the number of its citizens, but we can find data that contradicts this expected fact. We know of at least two hot spots of war in the vicinity of the European Union, namely the invasion of Russia, which is always supported by China, also through the territory of Belarus into Ukraine, and of course the Palestinian-Israeli war, in which at least Lebanon and Iran are said to be involved. In Russia, with a population of almost 144 million citizens, the human population decreased by 0.34% compared to last year. In the invaded Ukraine, with almost 38 million people, the human population increased by 0.47%. In the involved Belarus, with almost 9.5 million citizens, the population decreased by 4.5% compared to last year. In supporting China or traditional Russian supporter with one billion and...

Intolerance towards migrants or the economic crisis

Demonstrations have risen again against migrants, especially illegal ones, who subsequently apply for international protection after illegally crossing the state or Schengen borders of the EU. Of course, interpretations of the protection of migrants' rights are different. For most countries on a global scale, illegal border crossing is considered a crime. And here migrants who state that they are at risk in other countries and, of course, often also citizens of countries outside the alliances, should not be an exception. Most countries rely not only on a professional army to defend the country, but also on the military mobilization of their citizens in the event of a greater threat of war. In many countries, the duty to defend one's country is also among the constitutionally defined duties of their citizens. Slovenia also has this duty of its citizens enshrined in its constitutional Constitution, as the highest legal act of Slovenia. This is how the rights and duties of citize...

Scale of life and death

Life is supposed to be unique and unrepeatable and therefore especially valuable. And at least human life should also be specially protected. Most religions agree with this definition, even those that proclaim the separation of the soul, as an eternal form of life, from the body, which is transitory. Or those religions that proclaim life again in another form or reincarnation. Of course, this also raises the question of the value of human life, which is said to have an inestimable value. And yet the question also arises as to what life should be worth to a person. And of course, with such a way of thinking, a certain group of people can come to the conclusion that their life is not worthy of a human being and simply because of this they are not afraid of death or even want to die. Such a question should be decided in Slovenia at a referendum on euthanasia or permitted assistance in execution. Of course, euthanasia is supposed to be a freely expressed wish to be executed. One's own ...

The powerlessness of man before the vengeance of nature

The year 2024 will be remembered for the wars near the European Union (EU), which refuse to subside. This year is also becoming known for natural disasters, such as floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes and other natural disasters, which leave behind destroyed homes, commercial buildings and tears for our loved ones who did not manage to survive. Man, who is supposed to be the highest developed intelligent being, is thus once again faced with his complete inability to tame Mother Nature. The fury of nature, to which we often attribute revenge for pollution and the use of nuclear and other weapons to destroy everything living and non-living on our planet, refuses to calm down in any way. We can safely warn of the possibility of new strong winds, tornadoes and hurricanes, and possibly even floods and earthquakes. But for the most part, we humans are powerless to tame, eliminate or prevent them. Humans have invested most of their knowledge in the invention of new and even more ...

The spread of arms diplomacy

People like to live in the illusion of our great humanity and empathy for others and the extended network of good internationally based diplomatic relations. Conflicts between people should be resolved rhetorically or diplomatically. That is why in our everyday life we are quite unpleasantly surprised by the pure rhetoric of fists, violence and animal predation with the tendency to expand the territory. The difference between animal and man has been reduced to the human mind, which is capable of inventing the most destructive weapons. Diplomacy and mediation, which were supposed to peacefully resolve disputes between people, ethnic groups, nations and countries, have been reduced to the rhetoric of better and more destructive weapons. And with this rhetoric, who will rule whom with the help of the best and most destructive weapons. In this year, we are thus meeting, assured of peaceful coexistence and coexistence of different nations and countries, in fact with war hotspots that d...

Who is civilian

The waves of war are moving to the borders of the European Union (EU) and with it also crimes against the civilian population and increased migration flows of the so-called civilian population, which retreats from all the violence that comes with the state of war. And perhaps migration flows are helped by new military strategies that do not know the concept of a civilian population. At the moment, the EU is mostly concerned with the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the recent incursion into Israeli territory. Especially with the latter, it is very difficult to define who actually attacked Israel. Were these really the groups of Hamas and Hezbollah, or are the countries and state leaders hiding behind them. The question also arises as to who is still a prisoner of war and who is a civilian. Sometimes prisoners of war were only soldiers of the opposing military side. Then spies and, of course, their collaborators, associates, etc., were added to them. Nowadays, ordinary people, including ...

EU support to Ukraine and refugees

Since February 2022, there has been a state of war in Ukraine due to the invasion of Russian military forces. Since the European Union (EU) condemned the attack on Ukraine and expressed its full support for Ukraine, 4.3 million Ukrainians have migrated to the territory of the EU to date, and there is no indication that a peaceful diplomatic solution to the conflict between Ukraine and the Russian Federation will be found.  The 4,3 million Ukrainian refugees can also be compared with the slightly more than two million population of Slovenia to get a more vivid description of the wave of Ukrainian refugees. Due to the state of war in Ukraine, EU members have offered help in the form of temporary accommodation and international protection, including access to health services, social services and access to education and integration into the European labor market. All these rights of Ukrainians in the EU area also fall under the full support of Ukraine by the EU members.  Ref...

Who is a victim of war?

Now another hot spot of war has opened up on the edge of the European Union (EU). Last year's war flashpoint, when Russia entered Ukrainian territory with weapons, first with special military groups, and then with the army, has not yet subsided. The so-called Russian military operation in Ukraine has escalated into war. On October 7, 2023, Israel experienced a rocket attack and an attack from land and sea. Also, without any declaration of war, and the targets of their attacks were and still are, to put it simply, mostly civilians. And likewise, the first attackers or aggressors are again supposed to be militant groups, not the army of an individual country. In Ukraine, Wagner and similar groups were the first to attack. In Israel, however, at least the attacks from Gaza, or Palestine and Lebanon were attributed to Islamic extremist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah. The shortest end, with thousands of dead, wounded, tortured and ill-treated, is again the civilian population, inclu...

Rebellion against the occupier and workers' rights

Slovenia still celebrates April 27 as the day of rebellion against the occupier. For some, perhaps even most of the inhabitants of Slovenia, this is a national holiday, which commemorates the day when the Slovenian people began to organize themselves into units to fight against the German and Italian occupiers, as the leading royal political elite at the time gave up.  For others, although rare, this memory is still alive, as they personally experienced 1941. In any case, the current commemoration of this day is proof that the German Nazi and Italian fascist units were welcomed with enthusiasm by only a few. Some even estimate that only members of the German and Italian minorities, who were also preparing favorable conditions for the occupation, were happy about them.  Just a few days later, on May 1 to be precise, Slovenia also celebrates Labor Day, or rather the day of workers' rights, or rather the day of hope for all workers for paid work, better working conditions a...

The smell of war and tighter control

The European Union (EU) condemned the incursion of Russian military units into the territory of Ukraine in 2022 and thereby earned the attention of the Russian intelligence services, as so-called Russian spies are often discovered in the territory of the EU in recent times.  Increased control or control of the movement of the population and increased control over the social contacts of the population in the EU area or better restrictions on movement and personal contacts have already been known since 2020, which was marked by the Covid-19 epidemic and is expected to end this year, or in 2023.  We have also known for a long time the lax action of the police in the event of property disturbance. The property right is clearly defined as the express right to manage of one's real estate. And as property rights are defined, nobody should use areas and buildings owned by others without the consent of the owners.  Perhaps it is precisely because of the "smell of war" in Ukr...

Russia's need for power in foreign territory

More than a year has passed since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which brought a state of war and waves of refugees to the area of the hitherto peaceful European continent. The reasons why this conflict between two countries, which is resolved by arms, cannot be resolved diplomatically, can be several or only one, and that is power over others.  Ukraine is believed to have been independent from the Soviet Union since 1991 with its 77.8% ethnic Ukrainians and only 17.3% Russians, if we check Wikipedia data from 2018. The Soviet Union is supposed to be a union of socialist republics that existed from 1922 to 1992. According to the same source and after its dissolution in 1992, the successors of this union with a one-party socialist system were the following countries: Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia , Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia.  Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, it ...
